Website and App Design

A well designed rebrand of the website is imperative to retain viewership and loyalty whilst also providing information about the festival that is necessary to read about. The website will set the stage for your online presence as well as the brands relationship with the customer depending on how successful the user interface is.

Home Page

For my website design, to follow on from the idea of highlighting the all-day experience of it, I wanted the colours to slowly shift darker in a gradient as you scroll down the page in order to mimic the day turning to night. I also used the same pastel colours that I have used in various other designs for the background that you first see when you land on the page.

As soon as the page loads a video can be seen of the Freedom Festival with a short animation above it using typographical styles and movement to create a dynamic moving image. Upon further scrolling down I’ve created a moving banner with text moving along the screen in hopes to generate excitement and hype for the festival. Underneath this I’ve designed a static image of countdown timer that would’ve changed as the days went by if I was able to code it correctly. This would also be used to develop pressure and tension as it makes the tickets seem much more limited, resulting in potential customers buying tickets earlier than they might have down.

Further down I included a sliding banner of images and information to add a level o interactivity to the website that isn’t just clicking buttons

About us Section

An about us section is necessary on any brands website as many people are often interested on what happens behind the scenes and who played a part in certain sections of the festival as well finding out contact details where they can ask specific questions and location technicalities.

On the “Contact Us” page I included a mock-up of a google maps screen that if actually worked would allow the user to see exactly where each act/performance would take place as well as 360° camera tours for extra interactivity.

Digital Programme

As the current website design of the Freedom Festival holds a section where you can access a digital programme I decided to do the same. I simplified it heavily from what it currently looks like as it has over 70 pages and is still fairly hard to navigate. Instead I only included the cover page and 3 other pages depicting the time schedule and locations of events for ease of access and use.

As the programme pages would have taken up too much space if I just laid them out as is on the “What’s On” page I decided to make it accessible by having to click through to get a pop up of it that greys out the rest of the screen.

App Design

For the mobile version of the website It’s important to resize the different elements so they fit well on the screen of a mobile phone. As the screen size is smaller it’s important for the text to be a bigger size so that its more legible in relation to the images on the website.

Compared to a website which utilises the navigation bar at the top of the screen to access various pages, a mobile screen won’t be big enough to accommodate it so instead we can use a burger menu to bring up the other pages the user can navigate to.
