Logo Design K-ONE
1st Concept:
When I first began this project I had chosen the name “K-ONE FEST” to be the main focus of the logo to symbolise the idea of unity between Korean and western culture with everybody coming together as “one” – hence the name, with the “K-” being spliced from the word “K-POP and added to the front. To demonstrate this idea conceptually I designed the yinyang part of the Korean flag as the top of a microphone which also doubles as the letter “T” in fest. To begin with I kept the fonts for “K-ONE FEST” the same as I didn’t want to overcomplicate the design which I then changed in my 2nd design as I wanted to add more interest. However, in my 4th I changed the font completely to match with the intense and strong feelings that come from a festival which I thought suited the “Impact” font. I also changed the colours here as I thought pastel colours would suit aesthetics common in Korea better.

2nd Concept:
In my second concept I completely changed the design of the original logo and went for a much more futuristic, technological looking font as I wanted to display the idea of how popularised this genre has become in recent years by showing that idea that the future is “K-POP”. As the font shape for the letter “O” made it look a lot sharper due to the straight lines, and because I wanted to keep the microphone imagery within the logo to relate to the artists that would perform, I decided to use the “O” as a place holder for the microphone as the shape lends to it well instead of using the microphone handle as part of the “T”. I believe this made it more clear what the microphone was supposed to be. I also kept the yinyang from the flag within the background of the microphone, however the lines on the microphone made it less obvious what it was.

3rd Concept:
For the 3rd concept of my logo I wished to change the name of the festival to “K-PHASE” as I thought it sounded more interesting and would also help to link the name to Korean beliefs and folklore due to the phases of the moon being very culturally significant for them as this moon symbolism in Korean history and dramas have shown to imply something eventful will take place, i.e. a music festival. In my first design I interpreted the word “phase” as a mathematical term so I designed these lines to run through the words to make it look similar to the lines on a graph, however I quickly discarded this idea and tried to make the letters in the word “phase” look as if they are “phasing” through walls, symbolising the shift in popularity between music genres that has taken place recently.

Final Version:
In my final completed version of the logo I redesigned the way I wanted the letters to “phase” through the background by making them all go in the same direction, as well as including the lunar moon phases which links to the name “K-PHASE” as well as Korean beliefs of the moon which can signify prosperity and good fortune.
