Typographical Name Logo
My first two typographical name logos I designed in a way that’s similar to name tags that you can pin to your clothes which I like as it is similar to the one which I used at my old job at a café which I thoroughly enjoyed working at. I did this by separating my first name from my surname with a dot to establish a border between my name, as a name badge would, as well as adding a round border around the name to replicate the edge of the badge. I kept the design fairly simple and clean with not many colours used in lowercase to reflect my shy and introverted personality with a white background to make it look less messy, as mess in my room/life makes me more stressed. I chose a typewriter-esque font as I like old-fashioned, traditional graphics that were once used. I also like the font as it has a low x-height so therefore it is able to fit inside the border with more ease and look more compact. As well as this they have very sharp angles with serifs on the end of the letters which I believe gives it a more feminine appearance which I associate myself with. In the first logo I made the colouring in “Ella” blue as it is one of my favourite colours as well as layering slightly behind the outline to make it look like a sticker and therefore reminiscent of my childhood. In the second logo I changed the font of “Ella” to a stylised, calligraphy typeface which I thought added more interest and contrast to my blocky surname.

For this logo I went a very different route in the way I designed my name logo as instead I used a very sharp geometric font with various shapes surrounding the lettering to demonstrate my logical thinking, however the placement of the shapes are quite random to reflect my mind being very busy and constantly thinking. I used simpler colouring again with this one being a lime green to show my high energy and liveliness with the same text in grey layered behind it to make it stand out more. I positioned the shapes in a way that made the overall composition into a rectangular shape with little negative space being left to further show how I may wish to be perceived as organised and put-together, whilst still feeling quite cluttered as a person. I decided against filling the various shapes with colour and instead opting to leave them blank to allow it to not interfere the ease of reading the name, by doing this it also allows you to see the grey lines beneath the shape which I think gives it an aesthetically pleasing 3D look to it whilst also making it more interesting to look at. I also think this contrasts nicely with the text which is a solid colour and not left blank.
For the font I chose a simplistic, sans serif typeface as to continue the sharp appearance as I thought a more extravagant font would clash with the shapes surrounding it. However, I decided to not make the font too angular as I think the rounded strokes in the “a”, “s”, “o” and “n” show that I still am quite easy-going. In my previous logo the whole name was in lowercase lettering to show my shy/meek nature however I decided to capitalise the first letters of my name to add a hint of formality and fit more with the organised concept. I also think the contrasting size between the upper and lowercase letters adds more interest and room to be more creative by being able to play around ore with the blank space it provides.

After doing my first 3 logos I wanted to develop my 4th to utilises a lot more colours and graphic within it to try and symbolise my personality in a more interesting way. I view myself as a bright and creative person so to try and make this one reflect that I took elements from the 3rd logo with graphics surrounding the name and used it in this and I adapted them to fit a more bubbly/happy looking logo that gives off a more flowy impression. The colours I chose I believed were reminiscent of a beach scene and visiting the beach was something I enjoyed a lot growing up so I thought I could use a few for this colour palate which also links in to the water droplet shapes surrounding my name that ties in with the ocean as well as the pink and orange hues being used in association with the sunset and sand.
I used a much more stylised typeface for this logo to represent my more creative and expressive side to my personality with the “W” in “Wilson” fitting in nicely underneath the “E” making the composition more pleasing to look at. More so than the last 3 logos I tried to focus more on the composition of the different elements in this layout as I believe that is one of my strengths as a designer so concentrated on the tear drop shapes to flow naturally around the text.
