Self-Promotional Image Poster

Growing up I loved photography and taking pictures so I wanted to dedicate the first self-promotional poster for the polaroid’s I had taken in 2022. 2022 as a whole was a very busy year for me and one which I went outside my comfort zone and experienced lots of new things so I wanted to summarise in a collage of various polaroid’s which I’m able to keep and look back upon in future years. I composed all the individual photos in a disorganised and random pile to represent how nothing how everything I did in that year wasn’t planned but still turned out to be amazing. I made a lot of new friends in this year so I wanted to highlight that as well by using many photos that feature them in it.

For the typography of the text “2022 POLAROIDS” I used a more old fashioned typewrite-esque font to pair with the polaroid concept as polaroid’s were also invented a long time ago and only recently have they become popular again, but in a more modernised way. As the backgrounds of a lot of the photos feature a grey-ish blue colour I decided to use that in the text as well as the border to frame the whole composition.

For my second promotional poster I wanted it to surround my hobby of drawing and art as that is something I’ve always greatly enjoyed. If I’m given a piece of paper and a pen it is very often and likely that I would start doodling and drawing random stuff on the page to satisfy my brains need to get a silly idea down on paper. Because of this my workbooks at school were always filled with arbitrary scribbled as that’s the first thing I’d do when I become bored or my mind goes blank. To represent this as a poster I replicated the design of a piece of paper from a typical school workbook with the lined yellow pages and filled them all with random doodles. To make it look somewhat neat and coherent I repeated the design of the doodles after every line to make it just a bit more organised.

As the image of lined piece of paper with drawings didn’t relate to me at all I decided to add a picture of myself and erase the background of it to make it look like as if it’s been stuck onto the page as well as leaving the bottom half of the picture of me very jagged and uneven to make it look like it has been cut out poorly. I used a picture of myself in which I have a very blank stare as I wanted to communicate the feeling of boredom that I often feel before drawing random designs. I have also been told that my natural resting face looks very blank and that I’m just staring into space when In reality I might have many things racing through my head all at once. To further the idea of trying to get creative ideas that have built up in my head all at once onto paper I split half of my head off in a cartoonish style to make it look like doodles are “bursting” out of my brain. I also tried to take influence from the pop art style in comics with the harsh line-art I’ve outlined the picture of myself with.
